Convicted Murderer Hamza al Mustapha Discharged and Freed

Judge Rita Pemu Friday, July 12, 2013 threw out murder conviction of Hamza al Mustapha for the assassination of Kudirat Abiola in 1996 on the grounds that evidence at the trial was not evaluated. Dismissing the case and acquitting Mustapha Judge Pemu said "There is no evidence linking the appellant (Al-Mustapha) with the offence. Therefore, the appellant is discharged and acquitted." Kudirat Abiola was murdered in Lagos in June 4, 1996 while her husband Moshood Abiola was in prison for treason. Also freed was former aide to the Abiolas, Lateef Sofolahan who had been convicted alongside Mustapha for the murder.
