Michigan State lawmaker representing the 3rd House District in Wayne County serving his second term as member of the state's House of Representative wants to be Mayor of Detroit. Olumba, in his interview with The Michigan Citizen in which he talked about poverty, corruption and industry creation which he would tackle if elected mayor and using Nigeria as reference said: " I would use my second home, Nigeria, as an example. My father is Nigerian. He came over from Nigeria in the 1960s to get support for the Ibo tribe during the Biafran war. The Biafran war was about Nigerian independence; it was also about pervasive corruption. In Nigeria, you have one of the richest countries in the world in terms of natural resources … Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa but it’s still underdeveloped compared to other African countries. The reason why is, despite the overabundance of natural resources, Nigeria is plagued with political corruption. To me, that is Detroit."
