All along, the people of Anambra State has insisted there was no election in Anambra during the April 14 and 28 election that was marred by irregularities and voter fraud. It is now beginning to surface as a team of law enforcement officers, including the army, intercepted a car "fully loaded with Independent National Electoral Election Commission (INEC) election materials meant for the past senatorial polls." Action Congress bigwig in Anambra State, Francis Omo Okeke who visited the scene said INEC Chairman, Professor Maurice Iwu "should bury his head in shame " and with that shred of evidence it is now clear no election took place in Anambra State.
Also in Anambra State, the police command there has commenced probing on the setting ablaze of Anambra State Bureau of Internal Revenue (ASBIR) in Awka, inviting the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU), Enugu, to take close examination of the bomb section of the building in order to determine "whether an explosion actually caused the fire."
Meanwhile, in a related incident regarding INEC, Iwu and rigged elections, a group of women called Women Action Organization (WAO) on Wednesday carried out a demonstration at the INEC Abuja headquarters dissenting on the last April election, "which they described as a national tragedy and sorrowful development."
In the troubled Niger-Delta region, four American subcontractors were kidnapped by gunmen who claimed to be under the aegis of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND). According to Guardian report, the "militants are pressuring the federal goverment to release two of their leaders from prison and give greater control over oil industry resources to their region, where most people are mired in deep poverty despite the area's natural bounty." The militant's consisted attacks and kidnappings has catapulted crude oil prices after the United States elevated its prediction for summer gasoline prices citing ongoing problems at Nigeria's oil refineries. Jomo Gbomo, MEND's spokeperson in an email said "groups are responding to a call we made to unleash mayhem in the delta." Angry with Vice President-elect, Goodluck Jonathan, Gbomo said "forgeting that we were instrumental to his assuming that office, he calls us criminals and terrorists."
President-elect, Alhaji Umaru Musa yar'Adua is in South Africa on bilateral talks with his counterpart President Thabo Mbeki. Yar"Adua said during his visit on Wednesday that his administration would be bent on rearranging "the government to concentrate on putting in place those critical infrastructure to fast-track Nigeria's transformation to join the league of developed nations of the world. He is accompanied by James Ibori of Delta State, Bukola Saraki of Kwara State, Andy Uba, Anambra State governor-elect, PDP National Deputy Chairman, Chief Olabode George and Chairman of Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko dangote.
In last week's plane crash off the coast of Douala, cameroon, eighty one bodies is said to have been recovered from the "wreckage" of Kenyan Airways Boeing 737-800 which nose dived just minutes after take-off. However, the two day delay in finding the crashed Kenyan Airways is now under investigation.
